“We Got Their Number”: Dillon Brooks Fires Shot at the Timberwolves
Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks has added another chapter to his reputation as one of the NBA’s most outspoken competitors. During a recent podcast appearance, Brooks confidently claimed that the Phoenix Suns have the Minnesota Timberwolves figured out this season. His comments come after Phoenix secured two narrow victories over Minnesota earlier in the year, both of which featured huge scoring nights from Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards.

Trash talk has always been part of the NBA’s competitive fabric. Some players avoid it entirely, choosing to let their performance do the talking. Others embrace the spotlight and the rivalry that comes with it. Dillon Brooks has never been shy about which side he belongs to.
Throughout his career, Brooks has built a reputation for speaking his mind, whether it involves opposing players, playoff opponents, or entire teams. His latest comments targeted the Minnesota Timberwolves, a team that could potentially meet the Suns in the Western Conference playoffs later this season.
During a recent appearance on the Million Dollaz Worth Of Game podcast, Brooks confidently suggested that Phoenix has already proven it can handle Minnesota. The statement instantly raised eyebrows around the league.
Not because Brooks lacks confidence. That has never been in question. But because the Timberwolves are led by one of the NBA’s most explosive stars in Anthony Edwards.
1. Brooks Claims Suns Have the Edge
Brooks did not hesitate when discussing the matchup between the two teams. “You never know. Ant could have a great year this year and win a championship,” Brooks said during the podcast. Then he delivered the line that quickly began circulating across NBA circles.
“But if they run into us, it’s gonna be problems. We got their number this year.” The Suns forward pointed to Phoenix’s success against Minnesota this season as evidence.
“There was one game that we were here, in-season tournament,” Brooks said. “Book get fouled out, I get fouled out, and we still won the game.” He continued by referencing another meeting between the teams.
“We played them there, no Book, and we beat them. We got their number.”
2. Close Games Tell a Different Story
While Brooks technically holds bragging rights based on the season series, the results were far from dominant.
Phoenix defeated Minnesota twice, but the combined margin of victory was just four points. The first matchup took place in Phoenix during NBA Cup play. The Timberwolves appeared to have the game sealed, leading 113 to 105 with less than a minute remaining.
What followed was one of Minnesota’s most painful collapses of the season. The Wolves committed three turnovers in the final seconds while the Suns stormed back with a 9 to 0 run to steal the game.
Anthony Edwards finished that night with 41 points but missed two critical free throws in the closing moments, opening the door for a dramatic game winning shot from Collin Gillespie.
3. Edwards Dominated Despite the Losses
Even in defeat, Edwards was nearly unstoppable against Phoenix. In the two games this season, the Timberwolves star scored a combined 81 points.
The second meeting in Minneapolis was another tight contest that Phoenix won 108 to 105. Edwards again delivered a huge performance, scoring 40 points.
Minnesota struggled elsewhere that night. Jaden McDaniels, Donte DiVincenzo, and Naz Reid all endured difficult shooting performances.
The Timberwolves also lost starting center Rudy Gobert early in the third quarter after he was ejected for a hard foul on Mark Williams. Despite those challenges, the game remained close until the final moments.
4. Potential Playoff Collision Looms
The possibility of a postseason meeting between the Suns and Timberwolves adds another layer to Brooks’ comments. Minnesota currently sits near the top of the Western Conference standings with a 40 to 24 record. The Timberwolves are battling the Houston Rockets for positioning around the third seed.
Phoenix sits lower in the standings but remains firmly in the playoff mix. A series between the two teams would likely occur in the second round if both advance. That scenario would almost certainly add fuel to the rivalry, especially after Brooks’ public confidence.
If there is one player in the NBA who tends to respond to public challenges, it is Anthony Edwards. The Timberwolves star has embraced competitive moments throughout his young career. When opponents question him or his team, Edwards often responds with even bigger performances.
Clips of Brooks’ comments are almost certain to reach Minnesota’s locker room. And with another regular season matchup between the two teams approaching at Target Center, the Timberwolves will soon have an opportunity to answer Brooks on the court.
